Camp Nissokone: Traditional Camp and Specialty

NEW!!! --- Water Ski Camp --- NEW!!!

Spend two weeks learning water ski and wake board techniques on beautiful Lake Van Ettan.  This new program is taught by professional water ski instructors from Pine Lake Ski School.  Water Ski Campers will also take part in much of the traditional camp activities!

Traditional Camp

More fun in two weeks than most people have all summer. YMCA Camp Nissokone is located on 170 acres of spectacular lakefront in Oscoda, Michigan. The lake, VanEttan Lake, is one of Michigan's most pristine lakes. You’ll stay in comfortable, newly renovated cabins with modern bathrooms. The camp has a wide variety of age appropriate activities and programs to suit any camper’s interest. Mornings are spent in camper selected skill clinics including climbing, sailing, canoeing, sports, drama, creative arts, and many more. The afternoons are spent participating in cabin activities such as horseback riding, high ropes, low ropes and free swim. Campers will also enjoy climbing at Boulder Junction our climbing wall and bouldering grotto. If you have a more extreme sense of adventure, you’ll love the half-pipe at our skate park.  New this year PAINT BALL and MOUNTAIN BOARDING

Ranch Camp

Welcome back to the Diamond "N" Ranch at YMCA Camp Nissokone. The program is available to campers age 12 to 16. The Ranch Camp Program will encompass horse care, riding techniques and safety. Ranchers will receive riding lessons from our staff, go on trail rides and even take in an overnight by horseback. The program will be a progressive one, enabling campers to learn basic to more advanced skills. As they progress through the program, campers will earn a neckerchief denoting their skill level. Ranch campers will live in their own village and have their own specialized ranch staff. But that’s not all; Ranch Campers will take part in much of the traditional camp program at Nissokone.

Camp Nissokone: Leader in
Training (L.I.T.) Program

Entering Grade 10
This unique program focuses on developing self-confidence, problem solving, communication skills, valuing diversity and leadership techniques. During each session, LITs will participate in a three day adventure trip, take on our high ropes course, engage in a community service project and work together to plan and present one of camp’s daily chapels. This program is for teens that are seeking an exciting way to increase their leadership abilities. Each session is limited to 16 participants.

Camp Nissokone: Counselor in
Training (C.I.T.)

Entering Grade 11 - 12
3-week program
Mature, enthusiastic teens develop leadership skills while learning the fundamentals of working with children.  During the summer, CITs explore problem solving, communication skills, program skills, and effective leadership skills. Teens who successfully complete the program are given primary consideration for staff positions for the following summer.
